On my bedside table
What books are Wingecarribee identities reading?
Jane Lemann has lived in this area with her husband Martin for over 50 years. Her busy life includes working at King Ranch Australia at Milton Park, then running Outdoor World and Bookshop in Bowral and now growing proteas for the flower market and caring for a conservation block at Glenquarry. Jane is a pre-school teacher, horticulturalist and bush regenerator involved in the restoration of Mount Gibraltar Reserve.
Jane usually has a huge pile of books on her bedside table and this month she shares a few of them with us:
The Gib: Mount Gibraltar Southern Highlands being carefully re-read prior to reprint arriving.
New Selected Poems by Robert Gray. I have just discovered these wonderful, evocative poems having read his autobiography, 'The Land I Came Through Last'.
Trees of History and Romance by Michael Pembroke. Essays on exotic trees in a delightful bedside book.
A Million Wild Acres by Eric C. Rolls, Classic beautifully written history of the Pilliga area following a visit
A Young Person's Guide to Philosophy by Jeremy Weate. 'I think therefore I am", very good brief summary of human thinking recommended by our librarian.
Fishing for Stars, by Bryce Courtney. I found the world of the Japanese mafia fascinating.
Tree Hollows and Wildlife Conservation in Australia by Philip Gibbons and David Lindenmayer. CSIRO report.
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Inimitable and heroic description of hiking the Appalachian Trail.
